  • Overnight accommodations are available in-suite for Dad.
  • Rooming-in for baby is encouraged.
  • Our staff of attentive nurses will provide you with helpful advice on caring for your new baby...including feeding, bathing, and when to call the doctor.
  • Our Lactation Center is available for mothers who desire to breastfeed.

Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery
In the event a newborn is born prematurely or has a critical health condition at birth. The Birthcare Center at Newton Medical Center in Covington is equipped with a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). On average, 10% of all newborns after birth need extra support. We have an experienced and compassionate health care team to provide the best birth experience possible.

Specially trained doctors (neonatologists), registered nurses, and respiratory therapists to provide the comprehensive care that high-risk newborn needs in a specialized enviroment.

Heading up the team of neonatologists is Dr. Leslie who completed his residency and fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine. Joining Dr. Leigh at the new NICU are Dan Suskin, M.D.,Raid Al-Sayed Ahmad, M.D., and Ralanisamy Rajasekaran, M.D. All of the neonatologists are Board Certified with the American Board of Pediatrics, Neonatology and Perinatology.

Childbirth Technology
Newton Medical Center has always sought to provide the very best in maternity care. All of our nurses are specially trained in neonatal advanced life support. Our goal is to keep mother and baby side by side, however, we have a fully equipped nursery for occasions when baby needs extra special care.

The BirthCare Center contains additional advanced technology should Mother Nature need a little help. The option of epidural and spinal anesthesia is available to provide comfort to the laboring mother. With a planned C-Section, this option is also available, allowing the mother to remain awake to experience the birth of her child.

You can have confidence that The BirthCare Center is much more than beautiful surroundings...it's everything you need for a happy, healthy childbirth.
